Why Albuquerque: For me it comes down to three things; the program, the people, and the food. UNM has the only level one trauma center in the state─and the faculty and staff are top notch. My family is here, and I love NM’s unique culture and climate. I can’t live without my daily green chile fix, and thankfully the breakfast burritos are always on the hospital menu. Honestly, I can’t think of a place I’d rather train.
Life Before Med School: I went straight from college to medical school, but during my time as an undergrad I was able to spend 8 weeks in Nicaragua and Ghana as a volunteer. These amazing experiences helped solidify my goal of becoming a physician.
Hobbies: Cooking, travel, reading, photography, outdoors
Worst/Best job: So far my favorite job would have to be working as a hostess at a local Italian restaurant because the benefits included a delicious free meal with every shift and all the breadsticks and marinara sauce I could consume in an 8-hour period. The worse job I’ve ever had was doing data entry, because I found it exhausting sitting behind a desk and feigning interest in entering numbers onto a computer .
Favorite Band: Sublime
Favorite Movie: My favorites include, “Dumb and Dumber”, “Pulp Fiction”, “Tommy Boy”, “Seven”, “Raising Arizona”, and all the films starring Will Ferrell. I’m a fan!
Anything else interesting: As a child I told my parents I wanted to be a forensic pathologist and perform “op-topies.”
