During my medical career I have had the opportunity and good fortune to interweave my various training and clinical experiences in general surgery, critical care, trauma care, and emergency medicine. Boarded in Emergency Medicine and General Surgery, I have practiced in several teaching hospitals and spent a rewarding and challenging three years in the USPHS (Indian Health Service) at Fort Defiance, AZ(1979-82).
I have over 30 years of EM experience and nearly 30 years in medical education through faculty positions at the University of Mass. Medical School, Albany Medical College, and now at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Throughout the years, I have been intensively involved in Emergency Department clinical care, EMS/Disaster Medicine management, and EM administraton.
Current positions include: Professor of Emergency Medicine and Associate Professor of Surgery at the UNMSOM; Attending in the Emergency Medicine Service, and UNM EM Residency coordinator at the New Mexico VA Health Care System (which is a VA-USAF joint venture hospital facility).
I am the Immediate Past Presdent of NM ACEP and continue to serve on the Board of Directors, and as a National ACEP Council represtative for the NM ACEP Chapter.
