Why Albuquerque: During my visit I was greatly impressed with the faculty and educational experience that UNM offered. The people were welcoming, immersed in lifelong learning, and committed to active lifestyles. “The Land of Enchantment” was compelling in a way that few places have ever been. I found tarantulas, scorpions, witch doctors, green chiles, good coffee, a fascinating Native American tradition, a diverse landscape, and the Wild West culture. The city has a sense of place, and all of its quirks and assets make this a once in a lifetime experience. I can’t wait to start learning and exploring!
Life Before Med School: I worked as a professional ski patroller at Crystal Mountain Washington for 3 years before applying to medical school. Crystal Mountain sits in the shadow of Mt. Rainier with its highest peak at 7,012 feet and is the largest ski area in Washington State. The mountain gave me my love for the outdoors, pre-hospital rescue, and piqued my personal interest in pursuing a career in medicine.
Hobbies: Anything outside. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest I kayaked, water skied, wake boarded, alpine skied, mountain biked, rock climbed, and worked on the family farm. After being in the Midwest for medical school, I added cyclocross and cross country skiing. I also love to sew, paint, sculpt, and create!
Worst/Best job: Best by far was Ski Patrol - snow, first aid, and explosives!
Favorite Band: I grew up near Seattle in the 90’s and so have a large spot in my heart for grunge and Dave Matthew’s Band. But it’s currently the Swiss/German band named BOY.
Favorite Movie: Pride and Prejudice and anything produced by the BBC.
