Biography

Hometown: Colorado Springs, CO

Undergrad: University of Colorado

Life before med school: I took a few years off before medical school and worked as a high school teacher which was an interesting adventure, married my college sweetheart, and spent my free time riding bikes and snowboarding.

Med school: University of Texas SOM at San Antonio

Worst/best job: I raced dirt bikes for a while, traveling the country in a dirty van and racing with your friends is a fun way to see the country. Worst job, I worked as a miner one summer in college and it was awful. Super long days in the hot desert sun mining for rock, trying to haul 100lb slabs of rock down steep hillsides without falling or getting heat stroke.

Hobbies: Spending time with my wife and two kids, camping in the backcountry,  riding singletrack on my mountain bikes and dirt bikes, rock climbing when my bikes are broken, and snowboarding when the trails are covered in snow.

Favorite band: Whatever comes on the radio.

Favorite movie: Anything comedy

Why Albuquerque: I rotated here and really loved the people, the patients are very sick and appreciative, the attendings and residents were super happy and eager to teach, and the third years impressed me with how confidently they handled critical patients and managed a pod. Life out of the hospital wasn’t bad either; I ate my weight in green chiles and rode my bike almost everyday off, you can’t beat that.

Anything else interesting: I lived in a yurt with no running water or electricity for two years.
