Academic Advisement at the UNM EMS Academy

Academic Advisement Mission:

The EMS Academy is committed to preparing students for a life of continual learning, adaptability, and individual fulfillment. Our advisor, faculty, and students will share responsibility for developing educational plans compatible with career aspirations.

Advising Appointments:

Advisement is available to both pre-EMS and EMS accepted students.
Current students wishing to schedule an appointment are able to do so through LoboAchieve. Instructions for scheduling appointments are available here. Prospective students and current students unable to schedule in LoboAchieve are welcome to email EMS Academic Advisor Christina Anthony at cdanthony@salud.unm.edu. Current students, please remember to email from your UNM email account and include your UNM ID number. Per FERPA regulations, advisement cannot respond with any information contained in educational records to non-UNM accounts.

Walk-In Advising:

Currently, the EMS Academic Advisor offers designated walk-in hours most weekdays. Please check LoboAchieve or email cdanthony@salud.unm.edu for the current walk-in advising schedule. Note that walk-ins are first-come, first-served and are intended for quick questions. Advisement holds will not be removed during walk-ins.

Advising Structure:

Initially, students are admitted as Pre-EMS students in University College. During this time, students complete prerequisite courses and apply for admission to the Emergency Medical Services Academy. UC students must schedule an appointment with their University College advisor each semester to have UC advisement holds removed.

After being admitted to the School of Medicine, EMSA students are strongly encouraged to meet with the EMS Academic Advisor at least once per semester to discuss their individual degree plans and goals.

Not sure who your advisor is? See the full list of UNM advisors here.

Admission to the EMS Academy:

Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in EMS are required to apply to the EMS Academy. Applications are accepted once per year, and admitted students are required to have met all requirements prior to beginning paramedic training. Please see the main EMSA web page for application information. Applicants are encouraged to meet with the EMS Academic Advisor for guidance on preparing and submitting applications.
